- Make sure guest machine has
- Make sure the SSH key is created in the proper ../.ssh directory, or the install of the SSH key will fail (due to permissions).
Everything is done on the host machine. For this example, I am using a Windows machine with GitBash:
# creates key and prompts where to save. Use default because of permissions.
# We want to transfer the ssh key on the HOSTMACHINE to the guest.
ssh-copy-id -i /c/Users/Mike/.ssh/id_rsa.pub firstname.lastname@example.org
# if the host was a linux machine, it would look something like ssh-copy-id -i /c/Users/Mike/.ssh/id_rsa.pub email@example.com
# We can now SSH into the guest machine 192.168.1.222
# It should not ask you for a password.
